I had my non-professional Philippine driver’s license renewed at LTO Main Office at Tambo,
Pasay City. I just thank God that I will only do this once in three years because going to that office was a horrible journey. The weather was so hot and humid and I was sticky and sweating and the pollution and traffic was really frustrating. Thank God I got my license immediately.
Renewing driver’s license can be done at satellite offices located in the malls especially at SM malls. But I was renewing mine 4 months before the expiration date so they advised me to go to the main LTO office at Pasay where I had my license done. I needed to present copies my visa and airline ticket as evidences that I won’t be able to renew them when my card gets expired.
What to bring in LTO: driver’s license and its receipt, and a copy of TIN card or its application form. I had to return the next day because apparently the LTO people didn’t type in my Tax Identification number in my previous license receipt.
Renewal of driver’s license would still entail medical examination: physical exam (which involved only eye exam and height and weight identification) – 100PHP, drug test (urine test) – 300PHP. After having those done, I proceed to window 1 where the officer-in-charge checked all my documents before passing it on to the next window. The next step was the photograph session and computer signature at window 2. After that I waited for them to process my documents again and then I was called to window 11 for the payment. Renewal cost me 418php. After the payment, I waited again and then my name was called at window 12 where they released my ID. I checked my ID and the receipt information if they were all correct. I noticed that they forgot to input my TIN again on the receipt (which they said was fine because my TIN was inputed in the system anyway) so I better remember to bring a copy of my TIN form the next time I renew my license!
The total processing time was relatively fast. Medical exam took me 30 minutes. When I came back for the TIN, I arrived at the office past 4pm. There weren’t a lot of people in the office so my renewal process was hastened. It took only 30 minutes too! I guess people were all eager to leave for the day.
What I hated in this process was my journey back and forth the LTO office. The roads were cramped with a lot of automobiles. Jeepneys just park inconsiderately and hinder the roads. Because of the heavy traffic I was forced to walk a long way instead of waiting in the jeep. To get to LTO Tambo, Pasay: I went to Baclaran terminal and caught a SUCAT/HIWAY jeepney past the Baclaran bargain stalls. The jeepney dropped me off in front of the LTO office. Another way was I took a jeepney Pasay Rotonda and dropped off at the highway when the jeepneys make a UTURN at Edsa corner Macapagal Highway. There are SUCAT jeepney under the highway and they would pass the TAMBO intersection where I alighted and rode another jeepney to take me inside the TAMBO street. The latter transportation option may take me 2 jeepney rides but I was able to escape the crowd and pollution of Baclaran. But as I’ve said, thank God that I only do this once in every 3 years!
