Earlier this day in our school, we were flummoxed by the news that we have confirmed cases of H1N1 virus. At first the rumors said that it’s a Dentistry student but from a different building. I wasn’t worried at all since it’s not in our building. However many of the college personnel started wearing mask even though our professors were not worried at all. So there was a mixed reaction – cautious, indifference, skeptic, doubt and fear. My classmate started bringing alcohol spray bottle with her and jokingly tried to spray the places she walks into. I told her we could get drunk for inhaling all those alcohol droplets. Then our professor announced a memo given to him that there were actually 8 cases confirmed in our university – only 1 in the college of Dentistry. Of the many colleges, why ours?!
Dentistry students are different breed. We despair when clinics are canceled. Whenever classes are suspended because of storms, we accept the suspension bitterly. When holidays fall on a weekend, we rejoice. When clinics are cut off early, we don’t want to go home and actually will stay until 5pm. When school year has ended, we would demand for extension of clinic days. We just love school! hehehe. No I’m just kidding – we hate school. But we need all the school days and time we can get to finish the tons of clinical requirements and graduate fast and escape the hell that is Dentistry.
So I definitely wouldn’t want to get infected by the H1N1 virus and furthermore I don’t want our school to get quarantined!
