I was so excited to go to Palawan this week. Here was how our travel adventure went: Since our flight was on Sunday afternoon, we decided to attend church before heading to the airport. Furthermore after church it gave me time for some last minute shopping for the trip. I successfully bought my DICAPAC that morning. When we got home, we were still packing some last minute stuffs. Our flight time was at 1pm and we should be checking in at least 1 hour before. Rushing through our lunch, we arrived at the airport at 1220pm only to find out that we were at the wrong airport terminal. Panicking, I hailed a taxi cab to take us to the right terminal. The taxi cab driver was thankfully fast in his driving that we arrived at the right terminal at 1240pm. I told my sister to go to the check-in counter immediately while I take care of our luggages. After the luggages had been scanned, I rushed to the check-in counter. I was hysterically asking “Did we make it? Are we late?” The officer calmly told me “Ma’am your flight has been delayed to 350pm. Hearing the news, all I can say was “Thank You God, we made it!”
So we proceeded with check-in and headed straight to our gate. After an hour, the airplane representative announced that our flight has been bumped to 450pm! I was shocked and annoyed. As a paying customer with a travel itinerary to follow, I asked for compensation from the airline. After that has been settled, we finally boarded the plane at 450pm. Halfway through the trip, we experienced severe turbulence. I wasn’t worried at all and just tried to sleep through it. After a while, I heard the pilot’s voice announcing that he decided to turn back because they couldn’t fly and land properly due to the bad weather at our destination.
By that time I was indifferent with the “bad” things that were impeding this trip to happen. All I thought was “Thank God that He kept us safe.” Yes it’s better to be safe and alive than be dead somewhere on the ocean. My dad would kill me if something happened to us. When we got back to Manila, the airplane representative gave us the option of taking an early flight the next day with free hotel overnight accommodation inclusive of 3 meals or rebook or cancel the ticket. My sister and I decided we’ll just rebook our ticket. We also thought that with this weather it wouldn’t be too good to vacation to Coron anyway. That being said we just asked for free shuttle back to our house. I was satisfied with how the airline was accommodating and very considerate to the things that have happened.
Up until now I’m still feeling loopy from spending too much in the airport and on the plane. Right now, I’m looking for a good date to go to Coron. Hopefully I could still be able to go to Coron just so I can use my Dicapac.
When I grew up in the PI (1951-1970) there was only one domestic airline: PAL. And that stood for Plane Always Late!
this is my first time to experience a delayed flight and what an experience!
yeah look at the bright side, baka mas maganda yung mapili mong date next.
yup.. maganda kung good weather. buti nga they gave you guys option to rebook eh. tinanong niyo ba kung valid until when yuN??
pinarefund na lang namin ang ticket. wala na ako nakitang magandang days pumunta dun dahil lagi umuulan.
[...] stormy weather is sure putting a dent on people’s vacation trips. My sister’s plane had to turn back midway to Palawan after half a day’s wait at the airport. This is also my first time to visit Boracay [...]
