My friends and I have planned to watch this movie for a week already and after weeks of depriving ourselves from entertainment (because we were catching up with school work), a movie night is a welcome distraction. 2 of my friends and I have read the books by Sophie Kinsella and we are excited to see how the story will come out in the movie.
Confessions of A Shopaholic is adapted from the same titled book written by Sophie Kinsella. It’s about Rebecca Bloomwood who has an uncontrollable shopping vice and a resulting big credit card debt. She landed a job on a financial magazine and ironically writes about wise money management. Along the way she falls in love with her boss but keeps the truth about her lies and shopping addiction. Her lies finally catch up with her and she has to come up with a hard decision to choose between her family and friends or her shopping.
I can’t put my finger on what’s missing in this movie. It has the right humor, not overdone acting and a nice production but somehow after the show, I just felt “blah”. The movie felt forgettable for me. Isla Fisher plays the main role and she did it really charmingly. She delivers her funny moments with serious gravity that makes her character more laughable. I’m not going to criticize how the movie change many details from the book. For me the movie still delivered the whole story well. I guess I couldn’t relate with the fashionable clothes produced in the movie – I can’t tell the designer’s name just by looking at the fashion items. In the book, there’s a sense of wonder when the author names all the famous designer labels that Rebecca Bloomwood favor and how much each cost.
For this movie, I would give it a rating of 2 out of 5.

I agree with you. Actually, what it lacks is the very element of humor and intelligence that the book has. I gave it one and a half Ripples out of four.
I think the movie had good bits of comedy. But the ending is not so interesting…If you have kids, then watch with them together.Overall I think this movie should be rated 3/5.
