For the past few weeks, I’ve been considering buying myself a laptop. I told myself that if i’m going to buy a laptop, then it would take 10 years for me before I replace it to a new one. That means the laptop I will buy should be well-equipped and won’t need any add-ons.
I am leaning towards the new 13″ macbook which has the aluminum unibody. It retails for $1299 for a standard keypad, 2.0GHz, and 160GB hard drive. Another one has the illuminated keypad which costs $1599. It has 2.4Ghz and 250GB hard drive.
Why macbook? Although I don’t own one I’m planning to buy a macbook because it looks light, has a good software and they said that it doesn’t get PC virus that much. Also my mom likes macbook although she doesn’t own one. So Macbook will both please me and my mom.
I’m ready to splurge for a 13″ macbook but of course I first read up many reviews which help in my decision-making. Looking it up at amazon.com, I discovered these pros and cons from customer reviews:
Pros:
- Aluminum unibody – lighter, sturdier and sleeker.
- Trackpad – works like when you’re using itouch/iphone
- Mac software – fast and good security
- Keyboard – has backlight for an additional $300
- Good battery life
- NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
Cons:
- Very glossy screen – a lot of reviews said that the screen catches too much reflection that it’s really distracting
- No firewire port – I don’t know this would be of use to me but it’s better to have it than none right?
- Slower internet connectivity – one review proved that because of the aluminum body, this interfered with picking up internet connection
- 2 usb ports only
- No card reader, and no internal 3G option
- Price – too expensive when it has a lot of drawbacks and low specs.
One more thing that I don’t like about the new macbook is the color. I’m fond of the white macbook. I wonder why they didn’t make a white aluminum unibody macbook. Is it because of the aluminum content? So I think of choosing the old white macbook model ($999). It doesn’t have nvidia and it’s heavier by .5lbs. If I have its specs upgraded – it’ll cost me $1400.
But still I’m hesitant because the new macbook is still revolutionary in its manufacture and it has better specs than the white macbook. Sigh~~~I think I’ll just wait for the new updates/upgrade of the new aluminum macbook before I finalize my decision.

Yah… I REALLY WANT A MacBook!!!!!!!
lol…
i get aluminum macbook almost 2 months now. i feel great to get aluminum macbook, you concern about the reflection ya it too much reflection if you low down the contrast, and if you max the contrast there is no reflection at all.
firmware is the limitation in the new aluminum macbook.
since this is my 1st macbook, i feel the speed of browsing is much faster when compare my dell laptop with the vista. i become love more to safari.
most of the 13 inch laptop is comes with 2 usb port, no need to worry since i get the usb extension for 5 US$.
no card reader ya i feel i didnt need it since the macbook comes with the powerful built-in bluetooth software when you can open all your phone directory by using bluetooth.
the price i still said it’s fair i have writing some article before i go buy my macbook, since macbook using all the latest hardware.
if you luv mac sure i recommended you go for 2.4 Ghz with the backlight keyboard. if you get extra money j^st upgrade to the max memory 4 GB.
